This recipe is a traditional south Indian dish which tastes delicious and is rich in protein content. Can be made as breakfast or evening snack.
Let’s start with the recipe
Soaking time: 3hrs
Cooking time: 5mins each adai.
- Rawrice or idly rice 1cup
- Chenna dal (kadalai parupu) 1/2cup
- Urad dal 1/2cup
- Toor dal 1/2cup
- Red chilli 4
- Garlic 5
- Salt as per requirement
- Onion 1big
- Curry leaves
- Hing a pinch
- Mustard seeds
- Turmeric powder
Step1 : wash clean the raw rice and dals and add redchilli and peeled garlic mentioned amount and fill water and let it soak 3hrs..
Step 2: slice onions and keep aside.
Step 3: for seasoning add oil and heat and add mustard once starts to splutter turmeric, hing and curry leaves.
Step4: now grind the soaked items all to gather in a mixer . Don’t make it a paste . Make it little coarse so it cooks well and is crunchy to eat. The batter should be thicker than the batter we use for idly.
Step5: now add onions and seasoning to the batter and add salt and mix well.. add water to make the consistency as u wish. Just not runny is enough.
Step6: now take a non stick dosa pan and make it heat in medium flame and add put the batter and spread it with a spoon if the batter is thick. I prefer thick because that’s what is called a adai.. nowadays few make it like dosa but that’s not the authentic adai we people did in past.
Cover it and cook one side for 2 mins and turn and cook the same.
That’s all adai is ready to serve.
